HOW WE BEGAN...
Off Night Productions (ONP) grew from an idea often discussed around a theatre family’s dinner table, into
a company that actively began producing work in the summer of 2023. By year’s end, it had become an official non profit.
The Off Night Team is lead by Artistic Director Aubrey Seader, who is co-founder with her mother, Melinda Seader. Kate Seader, sister #2, lends her artistic and technical support as needed. Combined, the 3 have
a long and diverse history of working in, studying
and financially supporting the arts. Melinda’s background in the starting of both for-profit and
non-profit businesses adds another layer of expertise.
In 2023, with the support of many generous donors,
ONP produced “Proof” by David Auburn & the original storytelling show “Off Night Stories: Winter Holidays.” Both shows were performed to packed houses & received great reviews.
ONP plans to limit their season to 2- 3 events per year due to all team members having pretty great day jobs.
We are currently planning our next season, with our
first fundraising event coming up in the spring that
will help to finance our late summer production.

Why do we stage shows on
Sunday, Monday & Tuesdays?
Many people who love the arts are employed
at jobs that require working on Friday & Saturday.
Friday & Saturday nights are the most lucrative
for those who rely on tips for their livelihood.
Their cost of a night off = ticket cost + lost tips.
Musicians or actors working on a show miss
getting to see other performances that are on
the same nights as their shows.
Different shows can run at the same time.
Audiences often end up limited to seeing only
one show if they are staged on the same night.
Filling our local theatre spaces at the beginning of
the week not only helps support the theater through
additional rental revenue, downtown restaurants &
businesses see more traffic those nights as well.
COMING AUGUST 2024
Steel Magnolias
by Robert Harling
directed by Cassie Hakken and Aubrey Seader
Off Night Productions (ONP) is thrilled to announce their upcoming production of Robert Harling’s “Steel Magnolias,” running August 11th-13th and 18th – 20th at the John Waldron Arts Center’s Whikehart Auditorium (122 S Walnut Street, downtown Bloomington). More information about ticket sales is forthcoming.
The contemporary American classic “Steel Magnolias” is a hilarious and touching tale of female friendship, set in the small town of Chinquapin, Louisiana during the late 1980s. Within the glittery, glamorous sanctuary of Truvy’s beauty salon, six of the town’s most beloved women trade witty barbs, sage advice, and support one another through a variety of challenges. The story showcases the immense power of female friendship to keep us laughing and inspire us to overcome loneliness, self-doubt, and life’s most devastating tragedies.
Auditions for Steel Magnolias are April 13-14. Submit your materials via this submission form. Designers and technicians can apply via email at offnightproduction@gmail.com. Click here to join the digital mailing list.

Off Night Stories:
Winter Holidays/Vacaciones de Navidad
directed by Aubrey Seader
December 10-12, 2023
John Waldron Arts Center Auditorium
After a successful inaugural production of "Proof" in July of 2023, Off Night Productions, Bloomington’s newest women-led theatre company, was excited to host local audiences at the John Waldron Arts Center Auditorium for an evening of hilarious and heartfelt holiday stories. "Off Night Stories: Winter Holidays" was the first installment in a series of annual, live storytelling events.
Following the format of the popular live storytelling events produced by The Moth, “Off Night Stories: Winter Holidays” featured a series of true stories about the holiday season, told live on stage in front of an audience. The show included performances from new and well known artists, including Steve Scott, Greta Lind, Darrell Anne Stone, Richard Crowe, Malcolm Abrams, and Mary Catherine Carmichael. Ana Ximena Cordero performed two stories in English and Spanish. Each story was performed concert-style with original underscoring and interludes by local musician Ben Jackson.
Thanks to all the friends, family, arts lovers, and ONP fans who came out to enjoy the show. If you're eager to learn about upcoming projects, follow us on Facebook.
Before Off Night Productions, from 2017-2018, producer Aubrey Seader was the creator and co-producer of the Ivy Tech Storytelling Series (ITSS).This series produced four live storytelling events, each presenting 5-6 true stories, told live, addressing a different social issue of importance to the Bloomington community. The ITSS themes included "Immigrants, Refugees, & Asylum Seekers," "Reproductive Rights," "On Race," and "On Work." This live storytelling series, alongside Aubrey's work on the Hijabi Diaries Podcast, and the Mother Line Story Project, created the foundational production skills Aubrey needed to start Off Night Productions. The stories also lead her to pursue her academic interest in the power of theatre to improve public health.
